The Story So Far...

Hello, My name is Rhian Lewis.

I started Girl From Blue City in 2004 as an answer to my attempts to find quality & affordable jewelery with that little something extra to make it stand out, and to be different from the endlessly mass produced efforts found in most popular high street chains. So I began sourcing the best quality glass beads that reminded me of candy and fruit with materials that would not turn your skin green overtime. Over the next few years I began experimenting with other materials, And produced a range of colorful retro kitsch inspired earrings and brooches and cute button studs which were a massive success due to Girl From Blue City's enthusiastic Myspace following.

As Myspace became swamped with other crafters and artists I felt Girl From Blue City needed a revamp and in 2008 Girl From Blue City struck up a friendship with Lunacy Boutique. The lovely ladies of Lunacy encouraged me to produce items I could sell wholesale, After a run of newly designed Ladybird bracelets sold out in no time. The Sugar Skull necklaces and Love Heart Bracelets were the next offerings from GFBC using polymer clay and were so well received in Cardiff that I expanded the necklace line and at the beginning of 2009 GFBC ascended into sweetie madness with the introduction of JellyBaby, Pick’N’ Mix, Liquorice Allsort’s and Dolly Mixture ranges.

I work overlooking the river Taff and the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff’s city centre (Blue City is a reference to Cardiff but the name "Girl From Blue City" is actually taken from a Devin Townsend song title) and design and make every item personally. I have kept Girl From Blue City a hand made label to ensure individuality and quality in each and every piece of jewellery.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and hope you enjoy my jewelery as much as I do making them.

Lots of love
Rhian x

2004 - 2006

Girl From Blue City creations were first sold at local craft fairs around Wales in 2004. The most popular items were the completely hand crafted charm bracelets, Rhian even used to make her own chain from individual links ensuring you wouldn't find charm bracelets like them anywhere else. The original GFBC charm bracelets also adorned hand crafted sterling silver logo charm tags, the very original tags had the basic "GFBC" embossed on them and later the original GFBC girl face design. The original GFBC handbags were also very popular with their hand painted metallic hair and necklace design encorporated into the original girl face logo design.
